Time slip

Oops - yet another week has flown by and I haven't kept up with what we have been doing... maybe next week (I seem to have said that before....).
From Monday we had another group of junior high school girls come to stay from Hiroshima as part of their school trip. Despite their visit being less than 24 hours and the fact that it snowed while they were here (we were in t-shirts the other day) .... they never complained and tried everything with screams of "this is so much fun". I never thought lighting a fire could become such a major activity - let alone cutting the wood to go in it! Now all we need to do is get a lot of strong visitors over the wood cutting season and have them pay us for cutting it - that sounds like a great scheme!
The chickens also proved to be a big hit and the brave girl among them managed to catch them no problem, while the others wandered around avoiding the poos. They would definitely be no good on a kiwi farm!

  1. Wow. You've been too busy to blog! Hosting JHS girls? wow. We had an exchange student with us in Australia who LOVED woodcutting. Loved it so much he turned huge pile of logs into kindling. :O Make sure you have a 'this piece is the perfect size' example for your guests!

PS. Were you on Okusama wa gaikokujin? With a hula hoop and some marbles?

  2. Oooh, you've got a wood-burning stove... K would LOVE one of those, but we're renting at the moment.

The girls look like they're having a blast!

  3. thefukases:the junior high school students come as part of huge groups and are sent out to us for one or two nights - our kids go to the big cities for our school trips and the city kids get to come and see the countryside.... fun for my children to have some extra siblings for a couple of days, but pretty tiring!
And... yes.... we were forced to be on okusama wa gaikokujin and yes.... that was us with the marbles..... never again!
Anchan: our fire is definately the best renovation we have made in our house (it is in an old cupboard....). Cost far too much really, but definately worth it. I have never regretted it!
