After planting far too many parsley and marjoram plants (that's the problem with growing things from seed - you can never just grow two or three plants....) and building a new net for this year's sweetpeas we went for another little outing to see some little friends - actually 500 little friends to be exact.
Down a little side street about 15 minutes from our house there is a little temple. If you wander around to the back of the temple you discover about 500 little stone buddahs just sitting around under the trees. Every face is different and it is said that if you look hard enough you will find one that looks like you.... I have no idea when or why these statues were made, but it is just one of the little surprises in the middle of nowhere here in rural Japan.
